Fakespace Systems Announces Upgrade Solution To Bring Digital Stereo To Single-Pipe Visualization Systems

Marshalltown, IA - October 2, 2003 - Fakespace Systems today announced the market release of a video scaling and digital projector bundle that allows users of CRT-based, multi-channel visualization systems to upgrade to digital active stereo projection technology.

The Image-EFX™ image resizing technology converts images generated in 1024 x 768 (XGA) resolution to either 1280 x 1024 (SXGA) at stereo refresh rates and 1600 x 1200 (UXGA) monoscopic resolution. This makes it possible to dramatically enhance the visual impact of large-scale display systems without upgrading the visualization computer.

Active stereo using DLP™-based projectors can significantly enhance the brightness and sharpness of virtual models and other data. However, many visualization systems now used in commercial environments, university research settings and government facilities are based on computing systems that cannot support the resolution and frame rate requirements for stereo imagery using digital projectors. For example, earlier generation single-pipe computers, which are widely installed in flat and curved screen large-scale visualization theaters, can currently support three-projector, CRT-based theaters at native XGA resolution at the refresh rate of 96 Hz required for active stereo viewing. These systems now can be easily upgraded to support the most advanced digital projection technology available today.

“An upgrade to digital active stereo at SXGA image quality is an excellent way to extend the useful life of visualization systems based on single-pipe computers,” said Jim Angelillo V.P. Advanced Programs and Marketing of Fakespace Systems. "It also may help make new visualization solutions more affordable, by offering greater flexibility in balancing the investment in computer and projection components of the system. In all cases, simpler maintenance, greater reliability, higher brightness and sharper images make digital projection the clear choice for many system installations."

Already being installed, Fakespace Systems is making the Image-EFX available as part of complete digital projection systems, using standard 1280 x 1024 digital projectors. Pricing varies, depending on projector and screen configuration support needed. Digital image blending for multi-screen/multi-projector installation and distortion correction, especially for curved screens is included with the ImageEFX.
