Marshalltown, Iowa - October 16, 2003 - Fakespace Systems today announced contract wins and the completion of installations for immersive visualization systems at organizations across the United Kingdom. The visualization industry growth further enhances the company's position as a global market leader. The diversity of applications and types of solutions also underscores the company's strong position as a provider of CAVE-type, curved wall, flat wall and desktop size visualization solutions supported by a complete services offering.

Recent contracts and installations in Europe include a variety of immersive environments at research facilities across the U.K. Cardiff University in Wales is using a collaborative solution comprised of several display systems, including two different large-scale wall systems and two transportable, drafting-table style, ImmersaDesk® systems. The solution allows for easy group collaboration and is used for a wide range of applications, including earth science research, molecular dynamics simulation and medical applications such as monitoring the behavior and sequencing of DNA molecules.
“Fakespace Systems is an extremely effective contributor to the Welsh e-Science Centre at Cardiff University, which offers immersive visualization technologies for both academic research and industrial applications requiring the ability to access very large data sets using large-scale computing resources and high-resolution visualization," said Professor Nick Avis. "Our Distributed Visualization Facility places Cardiff University at the forefront in the development of advanced visualization systems for grid-based computing.”
At the University of Hull, Fakespace integrated an 8-ft. by 16-ft PowerWall™ digital, edge-blended flat wall system into a new research centre called the Hull Immersive Visualization Environment (HIVE). The stereoscopic display provides extremely bright and sharp imagery for a number of application including biomedical and genetic research, scientific visualization in chemistry and geography, archaeology, sports performance assessment, rehabilitation therapy, and virtual prototyping and design optimization.
Fakespace Systems also provided a PowerWall Pro™, which is a 6-ft by 7-½ ft. flat wall display system for immersive visualization, to the Southampton Oceanography Centre (SOC). The organization uses the immersive display to work with all types of oceanographic data, including highly complex computational oceanographic models, and hydrographic, geological and geochemical data including the effects of pollution on water masses.

Other recent Fakespace Systems contracts in Europe include an immersive display system at Sheffield University, and a major service contract with an automotive manufacturer on the European continent.
