New HD ROVR with Scalable Graphics at Supercomputing 2009
November 16 – 19 in Portland, Oregon
Scalable Graphics, a parallel graphics and computing solutions ISV, will showcase its latest product: Direct Transport Compositor™ at SC’09. Mechdyne’s new HD ROVR portable visualization system will be the main 3D display for the demonstrations that will take place at the Mellanox Technologies booth #1301.
Direct Transport Compositor is middleware that enables any number of graphics cards and processors to concentrate their effort to speed graphics rendering on a single display. Without any modifications to your usual application software, you can now render 3D models at higher frame rates and higher anti-aliasing levels for better interaction and image quality. There is virtually no limit to the amount of hardware the Compositor can handle. At SC’09, the Compositor will drive and enhance a graphics visualization cluster to enable real-time 3D navigation through full-scale automotive CAD models with the following specifications:
- Model size: Approximately 10 Mio polys
- Application: CATIA – enabled for motion tracking by Mechdyne’s Conduit software
- 3D display resolution: 1920 x 1080p Can also be displayed at 4096 x 2160
- Interactivity: 40 to 60 fps in 3D stereo with motion tracking
The ROVR will be equipped with optical motion tracking technology allowing visitors to literally walk in native CATIA models. Motion tracking constantly monitors the user then changes on-screen models in response to the user’s real-time motion, position and orientation. Direct Transport Compositor speeds the rendering of these large, complex models allowing more natural interaction with data.
Digital prototyping is widely used in manufacturing to reduce the number of physical prototypes, cut development time, and multiply the number of innovative hypotheses studied. When motion tracking is included for the analysis of digital prototypes, reviews can be done much more quickly and intuitively since users can interact with virtual models as if they really existed.
Leading automotive companies, such as PSA Peugeot-Citroën, use Direct Transport Compositor to boost the performances of their Virtual Reality systems for digital prototyping. The delivered performance gain improves design review sessions, which can translate in improved collaborative work and better decision-making.
