Mechdyne’s diagnostic and consultation service helps assess utilization, ease of use, and business workflows

Marshalltown, IA – An international defense contractor (IDC) utilized Mechdyne’s Blueprint, a diagnostic and consultation service, to assess their 10-year-old audiovisual (AV) technology system. Blueprint provided a clearer indication of the necessary upgrades in order to increase workflow efficiency and utilization of their technology center for more general use, with less IT support. At the conclusion of Blueprint, the IDC decided to move forward with upgrading their technology, resulting in Mechdyne installing two high-resolution projectors (4K), upgrading the audio components, and installing Meeting Canvas software—a collaboration tool with intuitive windowing capabilities.

Prior to the upgrades, the IDC engineers and executive management utilized their technology center to display sophisticated data modeling and for customer demonstrations, requiring IT support to function properly. Due to the complexity of the technology, the system did not function well for the company’s general-use needs, like training and presentations.

Due to the age of the system and problems they encountered, the IDC began looking for direction on how to increase utilization of their technology center and assess which optimal technology upgrades would help them attain a system that fits with their workflows. These needed to be upgrades that could be leveraged to deliver on the company’s current needs while being flexible for future needs.

This is where Mechdyne’s Blueprint became a valuable tool to evaluate and plan for a new system. Blueprint involved four phases:

  • Discovery
  • Maintenance and diagnostic
  • Analysis
  • Delivery

During the discovery phase, Mechdyne issued a series of surveys and conducted phone calls with the user group to better understand the technology issues users experienced and how they would like the system to function. The maintenance and diagnostic phase involved a Mechdyne technician that assessed the current technology and performed on-site system service. The analysis phase dove into the pain points the users had with the technology and analyzed business workflows during face-to-face interviews. Lastly, Mechdyne provided technology and workflow assessments and recommendations in the delivery phase.

The satisfaction of Blueprint led the IDC to move forward with Mechdyne to upgrade their AV technology. Implementing the upgrades would not only solve the problems they were encountering but also make the system easier to use for general purposes. The solution included:

  • Downsizing from four projectors to two 4K projectors, saving space and costs
  • Upgrading the audio system from analog to digital, helping prevent delayed audio
  • Utilizing software to create a seamless image that projected onto the entire curved screen
  • Meeting Canvas software, allowing more users to easily take advantage of split-screen and multi-window viewing
