More Than 17 Years of Scientific Discovery
When the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) set out to become a world-leading research institution, it partnered with Mechdyne to create one of the most advanced immersive visualization environments of its time. The result was CORNEA, a groundbreaking six-sided CAVE system, supported by an integrated Interactive Media Room that helped researchers capture, preserve, and share discoveries across the globe.
Today, more than 17 years later, the environment remains an active research asset, continuing to support breakthroughs in biomechanics, molecular science, engineering, environmental modeling, and advanced visualization.

A Visionary Beginning
In 2009, KAUST partnered with Mechdyne to design and engineer the visualization facilities within its Geometric Modeling and Scientific Visualization Research Center. At the center was CORNEA, one of the world’s most advanced immersive CAVE environments.

Extending Discovery Beyond the CAVE
The Interactive Media Room was not simply a supporting space. Designed and integrated by Mechdyne, it connected immersive discovery with communication, documentation, and collaboration. CORNEA could stream 32 channels of high-definition audio and video for recording and archiving, allowing researchers to preserve visualization sessions and share them with collaborators around the world.
